Eric Folmar, longtime head football coach, athletic director and teacher at Fort Dale Academy, announced in February that he would step down at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Recently, he announced he will join Greenville High School (GHS) as assistant head coach and quarterback coach, marking a new chapter in his coaching career.
“Leaving Fort Dale was a tough decision,” Folmar said. “I really loved my time there. I love Fort Dale; I love the kids. Leaving there is more personal than professional… putting my family in the best possible position.”
Folmar revealed he will join the coaching staff at GHS, citing family considerations as a key factor in the move. He explained that his life has changed significantly during his time at Fort Dale, going from a bachelor to a husband and father, but that the decision had weighed on him.
“I had accepted a job at Prattville High School and spent a few months going back and forth and I was just never at peace about it,” Folmar said. “I had been talking to Coach P (Garrick Pimienta) and ‘3’ (Parks and Rec Director Jerome Harris, III) and they weren’t making it easy on me to leave. I really feel like this [move] was just the best opportunity for me and my family.”
Folmar also expressed admiration for the Greenville High program under head coach Garrick Pimienta.
“I’m a football junkie,” he said. “So I keep up with all the local teams and I have developed a good relationship with Coach P and have admired his progress from afar. How far he’s come from the situation he came into…you just want to be a part of something like that.”
Pimienta said he welcomed the addition.
“He’s going to be a great addition,” Pimienta said. “Especially with the knowledge he brings. He had a great program at Fort Dale but he wanted to step into public school ball. This was a great fit because he really loves Greenville.”
With Folmar’s hire, along with the addition of former Crenshaw Christian Academy coach Brandon Burleson, Pimienta said the Tigers’ coaching staff is “fully staffed and ready to roll” for the upcoming season.
