Big hearts and bright ideas have earned Greenville Middle School’s Peer Helper club statewide recognition and a well-deserved reward. The club was recently named the 2024–2025 Acts of Service Contest winner for their creative and impactful Peer Pals/Kindness Calendar campaign.

The student-led initiative focused on spreading kindness, building connections and promoting a culture of empathy throughout the school year. Their campaign included daily acts of kindness, peer-to-peer mentorship, and organized efforts to ensure every student felt seen, supported and valued. The project stood out among entries from across the state for its creativity, consistency and measurable impact on school climate.

Alongside the Peer Helper club’s top honors, Jacquie Hamilton, the club’s dedicated coordinator, was recognized with the Lend a Hand: Successful Connections/Peer Helper Support award. This prestigious distinction highlights her outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in guiding students to become changemakers in their school and beyond.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and of Ms. Hamilton for their hard work and dedication,” said Michele Thigpen, Mental Health Services Coordinator. “The Peer Pals/Kindness Calendar wasn’t just a campaign — it was a movement that brought the school community closer together.”

In addition to the club’s accomplishments, two students were honored for their individual leadership and compassion. Congratulations to Joey Hamilton and Prince Hill, who were both named Outstanding Peer Helpers of the Year. Their commitment to helping others, both inside and outside the classroom, exemplifies the spirit of the Peer Helper program.

Each of these honors came with more than recognition — Greenville Middle School’s Peer Helper club was also awarded $500 to continue expanding their service efforts in the coming year.

From mentoring younger students to leading kindness challenges and supporting peers through everyday challenges, the Peer Helpers have made a lasting difference in their school and community.

“To all of our Peer Helpers, especially Joey, Prince, and Ms. Hamilton: thank you for making Greenville Middle a place where kindness leads the way,” the school shared in a statement. “You have inspired others through your example, and we can’t wait to see how you continue to grow and lead.”

Congratulations to the entire Peer Helper team on a phenomenal year of service and success.
