Just days before the start of Teacher Appreciation Week, a district teacher is being recognized nationally for her dedication to her students in the 11th Annual Crystal Apple Awards, presented by School Specialty.
Sophia Hedrington is a special education teacher at Dothan City Early Education Center (DCEEC). She is one of five national Crystal Apple Award winners. Hedrington (nee Ruffin) is a 2001 student-athlete graduate of Greenville High School.
Teaching for ten years, she coordinates programs like 4-H, Girls on the Run Club, volleyball and track. Hedrington was chosen because she embodies inspiration, leadership and passion in her role at DCEEC.
Her message to students resonates around the school and across the district: “Believe in your abilities and embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow.” Mrs. Hedrington was
among 500 teachers nominated across the country.
“Dothan City Schools and the staff at Dothan City Early Education Center are extremely proud of Mrs. Hedrington and her accomplishments,” Dr. Dennis Coe, Dothan City Schools Superintendent, said. “She has a way of connecting with her students, and she shows such passion for teaching. Mrs. Hedrington is so deserving of this honor, and we appreciate School Specialty for recognizing her in this way.”
Hedrington will receive a gorgeous Crystal Apple trophy, a $500 merchandise certificate from School Specialty, and a $250 merchandise certificate for the school.
