A motorcycle crash near Georgiana claimed a woman’s life Sunday morning.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Texas woman, Claudia E. Ramirez, 50, around 10:23 a.m. on May 4. Ramirez was fatally injured when the 2024 BMW motorcycle she was driving struck the 2009 Ford Econoline driven by Richard L. Pitchford, Jr., 34, of Foley.
Senior Trooper Joshua Thompson with ALEA’s Highway Patrol public affairs office said Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. No injury was reported for Pitchford.
The crash happened on U.S. Interstate Highway 65 near the 111 mile-marker, three miles south of Georgiana. The crash caused roadway closure of both southbound lanes on I-65 while ALEA Troopers with the agency’s Highway Patrol Division worked alongside local law enforcement to clear the scene.
Thompson reported the roadway was reopened just before 1 p.m.
