Resurfacing project to impact Highway 31 motorists

An Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) U.S. Highway 31 resurfacing project in Lowndes and Butler counties began Monday, May 5, weather permitting.
The project will take place on US-31 from the Piney Creek Woods bridge to Julian Town Road impact motorists traveling the highway through the area. The project includes planing, resurfacing, and traffic striping.
Motorists should expect lane closures and reduced speed limits throughout the project. The agency urges drivers to plan accordingly and remain cautious around people and equipment in the work zone.
The approximately $4.3 million project was awarded to Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc., out of Dothan, the lowest bidder that met the project requirements. The project is expected to be completed Fall 2025.
