Marlon Edward Rodgers, born on October 8, 1954, passed away peacefully on April 26.

Marlon was a longtime resident of Orange Beach but spent the last decade in Brooks caring for his mother, Florence. He may have been known for his gruff exterior, but beneath the surface was a man with a heart of gold. He wasn’t always easy to love, but those who took the time to know him can attest to his unmatched loyalty.

He was a true original, with a personality as strong as his opinion. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many others whose lives were touched by him. He was rarely seen without his beloved dog, Fran, by his side. Though he had no children of his own he could often be found with his nephew and right hand, Zach Perque. Although Marlon had long since retired from his career as a contractor, his love for building, tinkering and collecting never wavered. Marlon was no stranger to hard work and there was no trade he couldn’t master.

Marlon is survived by his brother Jimmy Rodgers and sister Ruthie Perque. Marlon was the beloved uncle of nieces Leia Rodgers, Li Jackson and Jamee Rodgers and nephews Zach Perque, Edward Rodgers, Josh Rodgers and Matt Rodgers. Marlon also leaves behind a host of his precious aunts, uncles, cousins and great nieces and nephews. Some family members especially close to Marlon include Donna Welch, Florence Gill, Faye Rutledge and Julianne Peavy. Marlon is preceded in death by his parents Marlon (Buck) and Florence Rodgers, his brother Arlon Rodgers, and his beloved dog, Fran.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 2 p.m. at Brooks Baptist Church, Red Level. Burial will follow in Gorum Cemetery, Red Level, Al with Johnson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1 p.m. until service time.
