Fort Dale Academy senior Alexa “Lexi” Reaves has signed to play volleyball at Reid State Technical College, joining the school’s first-ever volleyball team during the 2025-2026 school year.
“I’m excited,” Alexa said. “I’ve always known I wanted to play at the college level. This will be a lot of new beginnings. New friends, new coaches, new experiences so I’m excited.”
Her commitment marks a milestone for both the athlete and the college, as Reid State prepares to launch its volleyball program for the first time.
“We’re excited to have her,” Reid State Athletic Director Brac Brady said. “We’re just getting volleyball off the ground here and we’re glad she will be a part of that foundation building for Reid State Athletics.”
Reid State Head Volleyball Coach Shannon Kelley said the student-athlete will be stepping into a key role on the team.
“She’s going to be my defensive specialist,” Kelley said. “I’ve watched her several times playing club ball at these larger tournaments in Enterprise, Pensacola and Birmingham. She’s small but she’s got some skills. She’s a great athlete.”
Alexa, who has been playing volleyball since the eighth grade, said the opportunity to continue the sport she loves while pursuing a degree in cosmetology was an easy choice and getting to know Coach Kelley has further cemented her resolve.
“He’s a nice guy and he seems like a great coach with a lot of experience,” Alexa said. “I think we’re going to go really far.”
Her mother, Amanda Reaves, said the family is looking forward to the new chapter as well.
“We’re excited for this new journey,” Amanda said. “It’s their first year with a volleyball program so it’s nice for her to be part of that history.”
She added that her daughter’s decision to attend a college close to home means the family will be able to support her from the stands throughout the season.
