Mike Earnest of Greenville, was born on July 30, 1969, in Weatherford, Texas, and passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 5.
He was a devoted husband to Kimberly Taylor Earnest for 23 years, a caring big brother to Jimmie, and a dedicated son to Homer Earnest. Mike was a man of many passions, especially cooking and smoking barbecue. He loved the outdoors, was a proud Eagle Scout, and faithfully served on the security team at Antioch East Baptist Church.
As a leader in the Boy Scouts, Mike inspired and mentored countless young boys, helping guide them into becoming fine young men. If you knew Mike, you knew he was a friend to all — always smiling, always laughing. He loved his family deeply and was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ.
Mike took great pride in his work with Butler County Schools, particularly at Greenville Middle School. He was known for his willingness to do whatever was needed and was admired for his dedication to providing a clean and safe environment for students to learn and grow.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Marian Reed and his beloved mother, Edna Earnest.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Taylor Earnest; his father, Homer Earnest; his brother, Jimmie Earnest (Becky) of Tuscaloosa; his uncle, Rob Reed (Pat); his cousin, Wendy (Kevin) Dewberry and nephews Taylor, Caleb, Christian and Asher, along with many great-nieces and nephews.
Mike was like a father to Pedro Vargas, Stephanie Vargas and Jennifer Martinez and like a grandfather to Juliette Vargas. They lovingly called him “Poppy,” and he and Kim showed Christ’s love by opening their home and hearts to them whenever needed.
Visitation was held at Antioch East Baptist Church on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Blair McBride.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Treehouse Children’s Ministry at Antioch East Baptist Church, 2303 Old Stage Road, Greenville, AL 36037.
