The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles recently denied the parole petition of an inmate serving time for burglary in Butler County.
On March 26, the board voted to deny parole to Darrius Lamar Smith, 38. He is housed at the Bullock Correctional Facility, two years and seven months into a 15-year sentence handed down June 8, 2023 for third-degree burglary in Butler County.
The board voted to deny Smith parole with no reset date.
Smith’s current term is not his first incarceration in Alabama’s prison system. Previously, he served nine years and 11 months of a 10-year robbery in the first degree sentence from 2007 concurrently with four years each receiving stolen property, second degree, and possession of a pistol after conviction for violence, sentences handed down in 2009. Those convictions were served for crimes in Jefferson County.
The board held 27 parole hearings on March 26, granting five and denying 22. The board also held ten hearings on pardon requests, granting six and denying four.
