“In His Shelter,” written by Ellamae Elder, has just concluded a successful book launch on Amazon with the book ranked as a No. 1 best seller.

“I’m happy to share with my former hometown of Greenville that my new book, ‘In His Shelter, A Missionary Memoir of South Africa,’ was published by BCG Publishing on March 2 and became an Amazon bestseller. Much of the book I wrote from my former home on Davenport Road in Greenville just down the lane from my parent’s home place where I also grew up. I still miss Greenville and the family and friends I left behind.”

The memoir features “a country boy from Kentucky [and] a farm girl from Alabama — just ordinary people serving an extraordinary God.”

In 1958, Eugene and Ellamae Elder “tied the knot” and dove headfirst into full-time ministry. For the next twenty-six years, they faithfully served in churches and missions from Arizona to Mississippi to New Mexico with “Gene” as a pastor and Ellamae as a Bible teacher. But in 1986, God called the couple to their most challenging assignment yet, South Africa, a country caught in the throes of Apartheid and social unrest.

The couple face head on the challenges of how they could leave their children, their home and their country. And in a heated political climate, they navigate the dilemma of how a white couple can make a difference among racially torn people groups and tribes. These and other questions remain, but they said “yes” anyway.

When Ellamae Elder was a young girl, little did she know that God had a big plan for her life and a good man to go along with it. After marrying Eugene Elder, she became a mission’s volunteer, pastor’s wife, school teacher, Bible teacher, and ultimately an international missionary.

“I was deeply moved, challenged, and inspired after reading ‘In His Shelter,’ a memoir about a couple who left their family and comforts in the U.S. and listened to God’s calling to serve in South Africa during a very politically turbulent time.” said one Amazon reader. “The author does an incredible job of sharing not only the challenges faced in this new, dangerous environment but also personal and relatable struggles in her life. What a beautiful testimony of trust in God and resilience despite challenging circumstances. I felt a sense of peace of being literally ‘In His Shelter’ while reading this book and inspired to follow God’s calling in my life no matter what. Definitely a must-read!”

The book, published and marketed by BCG Publishing is available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback formats.
