Ann McCartha Tillman passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on April 2 after a long illness. Ann was born on Dec. 20, 1938, in Trion, Georgia to Gus Lee McCartha and Winnie Williams McCartha.
Ann attended school in Greenville, graduating from Greenville High School in 1957. She then attended the University of Alabama, College of Arts and Sciences, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, and graduated in 1961 with a major in speech communications. Ann married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Tillman, on June 20, 1959, while both were attending the university.
The family relocated to Birmingham in 1963. They became members of Southminster Presbyterian Church in November of that year. Ann was active in her church, serving as an elder, president of Presbyterian Women, Circle chairman, taught Sunday School, chair of Bible School and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class until her health declined.
Ann was a dedicated full-time mother and assisted Tommy in their business, Mortgage and Capital Investors, a commercial mortgage banking firm, until their retirement in 2001. After retirement, they traveled extensively making new friendships everywhere they went.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband. She is survived by her devoted sons Tom (LeAnne) Tillman of Nashville and Mike (Alice) Tillman of Smyrna, Georgia; brother Gerald McCartha of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren Ann Tillman of Nashville and Lane Tillman of Atlanta; great-grandchild Audrey Tillman of Nashville; sister-in-law Ellinor Tillman Nelson of Greenville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Pansy Tillman of McKenzie and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Arti Moreland for her dedicated service as a loving caregiver and her unwavering friendship.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8 at Alabama National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church with a reception afterward.
