The National Weather Service in Mobile forecast for Monday projected no significant changes for storms entering the area. A cluster of storms consolidating into a line before moving eastward across the area are expected to deliver a few damaging wind gusts, along with a low-end threat for a tornado or two.
A Severe Thunderstorm watch was issued for Butler County at 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday.
Two storm scenarios are possible, and the weather service is watching conditions to see how things will play out.
Scenario 1, the most likely, shows the environment will remain stable and limit the severity of thunderstorms. A few isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour (mph) are possible along a line of storms.
Scenario 2 is less likely. The environment will be able to destabilize slightly, increasing the coverage of damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. A tornado or two would also be possible.
“We will also monitor the flood threat along our coastal counties where 3-plus inches of rain fell yesterday,” said NWS representative Jessica Chace. “Storms are expected to move quickly, but heavy rainfall rates and training storms cannot be ruled out. “
