Georgiana School senior Lillie Boggan has committed to playing basketball at the collegiate level, signing an offer on Mar.12 to join the Lady Panthers of Wallace Community College in Selma.

Describing what the moment meant to her, Lillie said, “It just feels [like] a blessing because I get to continue my talents in basketball. The goals I have set for myself are to be more independent and to keep pushing, to always keep going and never give up on anything.

Georgiana basketball coach Kirk Norris praised Boggan’s work ethic and talent, calling her one of the best to come through the program.

“She’s been part of this program since she was probably in the first or second grade,” Norris said. “She started playing varsity in seventh grade and she’s been a tremendous part of this program over the last six years and beyond.

“Wallace is probably getting, and I say this with no disrespect to any of my former players, but possibly the best player that has come through this program. So they’re getting a great player and a hard worker.I feel like she’s going to be very successful at the next level.”

Boggan’s mother expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“Well, this is our third one going to college, but the second one getting a full scholarship,” she said. “So it means a lot. We’re grateful, blessed and thankful.”

Wallace Community College head coach Yulanda Randolph is eager to welcome Boggan to the program as she continues to build a strong team. “Last year was my first year as head coach,” Randolph said. “So I’m in my building phase trying to develop my own program. This past season, we finished third in the conference, so we’re trying to build on that and just keep elevating. She’s one of my first recruits, so we look forward to good things from her.”

Randolph said Boggan’s versatility and energy on the court made her stand out as a recruit.

“When I saw her play, I liked her drive,” Randolph said. “She was able to play in multiple positions, she was just very energetic and that’s what we need in our program.”

Norris admitted it will be difficult to see Boggan leave Georgiana’s program but is thrilled about her future. “I’m going to miss her,” Norris said. “She’s been like a daughter to me over the last, I don’t know how many years and I’m really going to miss her. But I’m also excited for her because it’s a great opportunity. I think maybe only three percent of high school players get to play at the next level, so it’s a great opportunity for her, and I’m extremely proud of her.”
