Ms. Dorothy Owen Golden, age 85, passed away on Friday, March 7, at her Troy residence. Funeral services for Ms. Golden were held on Monday, March 10, beginning at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Wilkerson officiating. Graveside services immediately followed at Magnolia Cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing. The family received friends for visitation one hour prior to service time. Flowers were accepted; however, donations can be made in her precious memory to Forest Home Baptist Church Fund or the charity of your choice.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Sam Owen and Annie McCrory Owen and and her cherished grandchildren, Brock Martin Huner of Auburn, Hannah Grace Huner of Tuscaloosa, and Brady Owen Huner of Troy.
Dorothy was a graduate of Greenville High School and later attended Massey Draughton Business College. She worked as a secretary for Henderson Black and Grocery Company for 21 years before retiring from The Sorrell College of Business as the secretary for Computer Science, and Accounting Departments on the campus of Troy State University after 10 years of dedicated service.
Following retirement, Dorothy returned to her hometown of Greenville, where she remained an active member of Forest Home Baptist Church. She served as the church pianist for more than 20 years, using her musical talent to bring joy to others.
Dorothy returned to Troy in 2019 to be closer to her family.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother, deeply adored by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her servant’s heart, unwavering faith in God and boundless love for her family. She had a passion for cooking and delighted in sharing her homemade meals, cakes and treats with those around her.
Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her special caregivers, Shirley Burden, Kim, Sherry, and Tesha, as well as the nursing staff of Troy Health and Rehabilitation and Troy Enhabit Hospice for their dedicated care and compassion.
