An Editorial Opinion of The Greenville Advocate
The Greenville Advocate began serving the Camellia City in 1865. Published by Greenville Newspapers, Inc., an affiliate of Boone Newmedia, the Advocate is here to provide coverage of the people, places and happenings of importance to Greenville and Butler County communities.
High on our list of priorities is accuracy and coverage based on facts. With a newsroom of local people living in and around the area, we aim to publish news based on information from reliable sources, among which we will never list social media posts or local gossip.
For a small-town newspaper, our commitment to reliable coverage means we are sometimes not the first to break the news. Instant access to worldwide information, in a day and age when anyone can say just about anything from the anonymity of their keyboard, ours is not a popular stand.
But we are committed to being the news outlet our readers can rely on when they need an accurate, detailed accounting of local news. We stand behind our publications and are happy to make a correction, but because we can never fully erase a published work, our aim is to get it right and to provide what readers need to consider the matter and check it out for themselves without embellishment or our opinions.
Occasionally we see your news on social media. Just like our readers, we come across a flyer for upcoming faith family or school events and enjoy seeing the snapshots of successful community events.
Because we can not be everywhere, we value help from our readers and we welcome community members to submit tips on what is happening locally. We also invite submissions — everything from wedding or birthday announcements to opinions or news of your event by calling (334) 382-3111 or emailing news@luvernejournal.com. .
