The Butler County Humane Society held its first Mardi Gras/St. Paddy’s Pawrade & Adoption Event on Mar. 1, finding forever homes for several pets and raising over $650. The Curio owner Nancy Idland also hosted a “Pennies for Pups” drive, raising $67.50, which The Curio will match to help support rescue efforts. Sponsored by Greenville Walmart, the event featured prizes for “Best Float” and “Best Costume,” with Southern Paws Bakery out of Luverne providing treats for the winning pups.
Taking first place for “Best Float were Courtney Rice and her dog Zeus. In second place, pups Bentley and Remi helped capture an award for Jennifer Piggot.
The award for “Best Costume” went to Jett Cristwall and his pup Henry. Officer Sam Turner’s dog Soni apprehended second place.
