Over the next few hours, the severe threat will be mostly confined to areas of inland southeast Mississippi and inland southwest Alabama. This is where isolated supercells will continue to develop and carry the greatest tornado potential.
“As we get later into the evening, a line of storms will approach from the west and move east across the area through the early morning hours,” said Jason Beaman with the National Weather Service in Mobile.
The severe weather threat will come to an end around midnight over the western half of the area with storms clearing the entire area by 4 a.m. Damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes remain as threats.
“We think the greatest tornado potential will be with the isolated supercells early this evening,” Beaman said. “However, a tornado is also possible along the line of storms. We do think the line may begin to weaken as it moves east of I-65 after midnight. However, the threat for isolated severe storms will continue until 4 a.m.
