The National Weather Service in Mobile continues to monitor the potential for strong to severe storms Wednesday into Wednesday night. The main change in the forecast predicts the potential for two rounds of strong to severe storms with the second one being the strong and more likely round.
“We also are keeping an eye on another system Saturday night into Sunday that will likely bring another round of severe weather,” said Brandon Black, NWS representative, in a Tuesday-morning email.
Round 1 includes strong to severe storms capable of hail up to quarter sized, damaging winds and a tornado cannot be ruled out. The front is expected mainly around 10 a.m. through 1 p.m.
The best chance for storms will be mainly along and north of U.S. Highway 84 or from a line going from Waynesboro Mississippi through Camden and north.
The weather service has low confidence in storms being severe. Storms will occur along a warm front and if they occur north of the front then storms will either be hail producers or not severe at all.
However, if storms happen south of the front, then the potential damaging winds and a tornado or two become more likely.
Round 2, anticipated for Wednesday night, brings a round of strong to severe storms capable of damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour (MPH), and a couple of tornadoes will be possible.
The impact is predicted mainly around 9 p.m. through 1 a.m. west of U.S. Interstate Highway 65 (I-65) and 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. east of I-65.
The best chance for storms will be across the slight risk areas of interior southeastern Mississippi into far interior southwestern Alabama. Severe risk appears to diminish quickly as we progress eastward.
The NWS has moderate confidence in storms actually occurring; low confidence in how severe they will be. Depending on how Round 1 progresses will likely determine how clean the environment will be and how supportive of severe storms.
