Edward Ellis (Eddie) Lamb of Greenville passed away on Jan. 28, at the age of 82.

He was born in Miami, Florida on Oct.18, 1942 and was the adopted son of Ellis Ivan Lamb and Alma Blanche Lamb of Delray Beach, Florida. Eddie spent much of his younger years enjoying baseball, fishing, the beach, and swimming in South Florida while also working on his family’s farm.

After meeting and marrying the sweetheart of his life, Brenda Lamb, Eddie took over the family farming business, moving on to work with a commercial farming company, and ultimately moving his young family to Greenville in 1972. He worked until retirement with paper and pulp companies in Alabama.

Eddie was active in coaching, supporting and cheering on his kids in sports, theater, art, hunting and basically anything they took interest in as they grew into adulthood. In retirement he enjoyed most everything outdoors including mowing the grass and taking care of things around his family’s and neighbor’s homeplaces. He had a gift for growing the best homegrown tomatoes one could find and was talented at growing most any plant or vegetable in his garden that he put his hands to.

Eddie was a loving man who had a beautiful spirit and a huge heart for helping others.  He was a lifelong blood donor and enjoyed contributing however he could to food banks and other charities as he was able to help with serving needs. He also enjoyed personally delivering food to family, neighbors, and those in need. In addition to his love for people, Eddie also had a big heart for pets, caring not only for his personal pets, but also doctoring and taking care of others’ pets.

Not all of his time was spent serving, he always enjoyed having a good laugh with his family and friends. Eddie had a quick wit and strong sense of humor offering up sayings and classic one-liners that would bring levity and wisdom at the same time.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda Kay Taylor Lamb of Greenville; his son, Michael Edward Lamb (wife, Anna Leigh) of Birmingham; his daughter, Julie Lamb; his grandsons, Jacob Michael Lamb (wife, Emma) and Zachary Bassett Lamb of Birmingham and his great-granddaughter, Scarlett Louise Lamb.

The Lamb Family is especially appreciative of the loving-kindness, skill and expertise of the doctors, staff and nurses at UAB Hospital in caring for Eddie and supporting our family while working to give him the best care available in his final months. The Lamb Family has many ties to the UAB community including the graduation of one of his grandsons (Zachary), a scholarship at the Collat College of Business in memory of his daughter-in-law (Lisa Lamb) and work by his son (Michael) on UAB’s Protective Stadium in Birmingham.

A celebration of Eddie’s life is planned for 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9 at The Lodge at Sherling Lake, 4449 Braggs Road, Greenville, AL 36037. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity is suggested.  Some of his favorites were The Greater Montgomery Area Food Bank and Lamb Family Ministries.
