Citizens, elected officials and members of the law enforcement community gathered Thursday, Jan. 30, to celebrate with now-retired Sheriff Danny Bond on his second-to-last day in office. He was elected as Sheriff in January 2019 and closed his term in office Friday after the retirement party held at the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Greenville campus.

“I think I speak for all of us when I say that we’re all sad to see that he is retiring, but we’re extremely happy for him to be able to have this time in his life, and it’s certainly well deserved,” said Q94 radio host Kyle Haynes, who served as emcee for the event. “I think he handled every instance [as Sheriff] in the best possible way, in the way that a true leader should and you would expect from somebody like our sheriff, Danny Bond.”

When asked about how he felt, with retirement only one day away, Bond confirmed he knew it was time to open the next chapter of his life.

“I’m going to miss [being Sheriff],” Bond said. “But it’s time.”

Horace Horn, vice president of external affairs for PowerSouth Energy Cooperative delivered a certificate of recognition from Gov. Kay Ivey and described Bond as a statewide leader in law enforcement.

“He’s been such a leader here in Butler County and certainly in the state of Alabama,” Horn said. “I’d say Danny Bond is a good man. He’s also been a good friend… a good Sheriff and a good law enforcement officer.”
