Georgiana School extended their deepest appreciation to Alabama Power recently for the generous support by Alabama Power through the award of grants aimed at contributing to the local community.

One award, the “Power to Play” grant, has significantly bolstered the school’s track program.

“These contributions have provided us with essential equipment, enhancing our program and giving our students the means to excel not only on the track but in all areas of their academic and personal lives,” administrators said in a media release.

The Panthers’ track team lives by the inspiring motto from Nasir Cheatham, “Be phenomenal or be forgotten.” The ethos is a call to excellence across all pursuits and has been embodied by student athletes, particularly evident this year as the team achieved the status of 1A state champions runner-up.

“This achievement is a testament to their hard work and perseverance,” representatives said.

Jalen Crenshaw, a 12th grader, stood out as the runner-up in a dramatic photo finish at the state championships. Crenshaw has demonstrated impressive growth both in and out of the classroom. He broke the school records for the hundred-meter and two hundred-meter races, achievements he credits to his dedication and mindset.

Reflecting on his experience, Crenshaw said, “Participating in track has not only motivated me outside the classroom but also inside. If I can push myself physically, then I can do it mentally too.”

Orlando Moore, another member of the track team, said, “Thanks to Alabama Power, we’re set to run faster than electricity — all puns intended!”

The playful comment highlights the team spirit and camaraderie fostered within our program.

“The resilience, discipline, and pursuit of excellence that our track program promotes are crucial in shaping the character of our students,” administrators said. “With the ongoing support from Alabama Power, our students have the resources and inspiration they need to pursue their dreams and achieve new heights.

“We are excited to continue our journey of empowering our students, with Alabama Power as a crucial partner in our community’s ongoing growth and success. We thank them for helping us mold future leaders, athletes, and scholars who choose to be phenomenal every day.

Through these initiatives and partnerships, we are not just building a stronger track team but are also fostering a community where every student is encouraged to push their limits and realize their full potential.

Grants Beautify Georgiana Campus

Administrators also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the utility provider for their continued partnership and support through the “Good Roots Grant” and “Students to Stewards” initiatives. The grants were pivotal in both beautifying the Georgiana School campus and enhancing the school’s offerings.

“Through the ‘Good Roots Grant,’ we have been able to add trees to our front lawn, significantly improving the aesthetic appeal of our school’s entrance,” administrators said. “This initiative not only enhances the look of our campus but also contributes to our environmental sustainability efforts.

Georgiana School Principal Deedra Benson, expressed her appreciation.

“These grants from Alabama Power are a game changer for our school and community,” Benson said. “They help us showcase our commitment to growth and sustainability, creating a welcoming and beautiful environment.”

Additionally, the “Students to Stewards” grant has enabled the creation of an outdoor classroom along the Brenda Gruenewald Trail of Encouragement. This versatile new learning environment will accommodate everything from science classes to social events, providing students with the opportunity to learn in a dynamic and engaging setting.

Judy Smith, a teacher at the school, remarked, “This outdoor classroom, made possible by Alabama Power’s generous support, is a fantastic addition to our educational facilities. It allows us to take teaching beyond the traditional classroom and into the heart of nature, enhancing our students’ learning experiences significantly.”

“These projects not only beautify our campus but also embody the spirit of community and environmental stewardship, enriching the educational experiences of our students while fostering a sense of pride and responsibility towards their environment,” representatives said. “We look forward to seeing the continued benefits these projects will bring to our school and the broader community. With every step forward through these initiatives, Georgiana School strengthens its position as a beacon of educational innovation and community engagement.”
