Obituary – Edward Barge Stallworth

Edward Barge Stallworth passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Dec. 21, 2024 at home in Georgiana, AL.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1931, to Nell and Marcus Stallworth of Pine Apple where he lived with his siblings Marcus, John D., Nell and McDuffie. He graduated from Moore Academy in 1950 and went on to join the Air Force serving in Alaska during the Korean War. In 1952, he married Sandra Anderson from Greenville; and, after his service ended, they moved to Auburn where Edward went to Auburn University on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1958.
While at Auburn, he and wife Sandra had two children, Cam and Holly. Following graduation, Edward worked for various industries throughout the southeast taking his family to Raleigh, North Carolina, Memphis, Tennessee, Laurel, Mississippi and Selma. In 1970, Edward returned to Pine Apple with his family where he ran the city water system and managed his timberland for many years. He and Sandra lived in their century-old home which they restored to its original glory until her death in 1995. Edward married Mary Stinson Waldrop in 1997 and lived with her at her home alongside a fishpond and pine trees in Georgiana until her passing in 2023.
Twice widowed, Edward was also preceded in death by his daughter Cam who died in 2001. He is survived by his brother McDuffie, his daughter Holly, two grandsons, Joshua Gordon (Erin) and Jacob Gordon, great granddaughter Lily and numerous nieces and nephews (Steve Stallworth, Edna Belle Steen, Melissa Woodson, John Stallworth, Kim Camp, Marcia Walker and Selena Stallworth).
Edward donated his body to the University of South Alabama Medical School. The family plans a commemorative gathering to honor Edward’s life following the installation of a grave marker in Magnolia Cemetery.
