Pensacola man dies in Saturday crash

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, has claimed the life of a Pensacola, Florida man. Robert M. Thomas, 77, who was a passenger in the 2017 Honda Pilot, was fatally injured when the Honda struck the rear end of the 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Jose Manuel Valin Cano, 38, of Miami Gardens, Florida.
Robert Thomas was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gail A. Thomas, 75, of Pensacola, was injured and transported to Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville for treatment.
Cano was also injured and transported to Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 122-mile marker, approximately four miles south of Greenville city limits, in Butler County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
