On Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Greenville Police Department will host its annual Cops and Kids event at their station, located at 109 Caldwell Street. The event will feature food, games, music and the opportunity to meet Tobie, the department’s K-9 officer. Families are invited to join in the fun and learn more about their local police and other public service departments.
“We just try to get all the community to come and visit us at our location,” said Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn. “I like it being held at the police department because that way people can come in and see us on a good note instead of when something bad happens. They can talk to the officers and get to know them in a good environment and see the good that’s a part of the police department, that we are the community, and they are us.”
In addition to the activities for kids, parents will also benefit from services like the child identification kit, which is designed to be kept confidential and used in emergencies.
“You don’t need it until you need it, but if there ever is a need for it, you’re going to be glad you have that,” Lovvorn explained.
The event will also feature a climbing wall, hot dogs, drinks and appearances by other local departments, including the sheriff’s office, fire department and state troopers.
