The Butler County Civic League will hold its annual Fall Banquet at the Dunbar Recreation Center on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. Senator Robert Stewart, a Selma native and current Alabama state senator, will be the guest speaker at the event. Tickets are available for $25.
“The Butler County Civic League has been an influential part of this community for over 60 years, supporting the ADC (Alabama Democratic Conference),” said Tiffany Hickman, a civic league member. “We currently have 61 active members and are growing. Along with the ever-popular Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. breakfast, the organization hosts its annual Fall Banquet to celebrate and honor community leaders.
“The banquet is coming off the heels of our inaugural Youth Empowerment Event that took place last month, where Butler County children and parents alike, were inspired and motivated, about their own future endeavors, as well as the future of Butler County. We look forward to having Senator Stewart as our special guest.”
Stewart, elected in 2022, is the youngest member of the Alabama State Senate and serves as Vice Chairman of the Minority Caucus.
“This is an immense honor to be able to speak at the Butler County Civic League banquet,” Stewart said. “They have a storied legacy of advocating, organizing and encouraging civic engagement to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Butler County.”
The theme for this year’s banquet is “Freedom: Let Your Voice Be Heard.” Senator Stewart hopes to inspire attendees to engage more deeply in the democratic process, emphasizing the importance of local elections.
“We need to advocate for leaders who will address community issues like healthcare, education and economic development,” he said. “It is critical to elect leaders that care about our rural communities.”
The formal event will feature a catered meal, live entertainment and recognition of local honorees. Open enrollment for the Butler County Civic League will also be available during the evening.
“We encourage the youth of our community to get involved, join us and learn more about the Democratic process and how they can make a difference in our community,” Hickman added.
Tickets can be purchased from any member up until the day of the event.
