Greenville Tigers vs. Andalusia Bulldogs
This will be another dog and cat fight between two teams — the Greenville Tigers and the Andalusia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs earned their first win of the 2024 season, with a 24-6 win over the Headland Rams while the Tigers lost their first game to the Charles Henderson Trojans in a heartbreaking hard-fought battle 18- 14.
The dogs are just two years removed from a 4A state championship. If the Tigers from Butler County pull off the victory, they just might turn the corner for a good gridiron season.
It will be a close one. Give the nod to the home team Bulldogs.
Gooch’s winner pick: Dogs 17, Tigers, 13
Georgiana Panthers vs. McKenzie tigers
Oh my, this feline battle between the Georgiana Panthers and McKenzie Tigers could be one for the ages. Only six miles separate the two schools in Butler County, and it should be a sold out crowd.
McKenzie is off to a good season, the best they have had. They stand at 3-0 and are coming off a thrilling four-overtime victory over highly rated 1A Elba Tigers, 80 to 78. The Panthers stand at two and one with their only loss to 5A Greenville Tigers, 35-0. If McKenzie does come out for their locker room fighting, a win could put them over the hump to battle for a region championship.
Gooch’s winner in a cat fight: Tigers 28, Panthers 22
Fort Dale Eagles vs. Clarke Prep Gators
The high flying Eagles of Fort Dale will travel to Grove Hill to face the lowly Gators of Clarke Prep in a key Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) region match up. The Eagles are two and one overall and 1-0 in region play. Fort Dale bounced back from a loss to Chambers Academy, and blasted the Escambia Academy, 42-7 on a rain-soaked field.
On the other hand, the Gators lost their third game of the season, 47 to 19 to Monroe Academy. Even the long journey should, should not keep the Eagles down.
Gooch’s winner: Eagles 31, Gators 18
