Jamie Howard, principal of Greenville High School, announced in a Thursday press release that the posting for head football coach for the Greenville Tigers closed officially at midnight on Feb. 28.

An organizational meeting with Howard and his team of community stakeholders, along with administration from the Butler County Board of Education, will be held on March 2 to review applications, said Superintendent Joseph Eiland.

“This is strictly an organizational meeting to establish the meeting norms and procedures,” Eiland said. “The actual meeting to pour through the applications will be an eight hour meeting on the seventh. At this meeting the five finalists will be determined and announced.”

Interviews with the five potential candidates will be held the following week, Eiland said.

The interviews will be scheduled in case there is a need to move the times up to the following Monday or Tuesday before the regular board meeting, Eiland said.

At the meeting, the group will narrow the pool of 42 applicants to five candidates for the interview process.

“Interviews are scheduled to take place on March 7,” Eiland said.

According to Howard the intention is to make a recommendation to Eiland who will then recommend the committee’s choice to the Board of Education at the regular meeting date of March 16, 2023.

The school has been looking for a new Head Football Coach since the departure of Patrick Browning.

Browning resigned after one year with Greenville High School. He accepted a position at Alabama State University as quarterback coach and passing game coordinator earlier this year.

Before coaching at Greenville High School, Browning was the football coach at Pike Road School. He took that team to an Alabama Independent School Association Class 5A title in 2021.

Browning left the Tiger’s with a 1-9 season in 2022-23.
