“The previously appropriated budget funds will be split between the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department,” Joey Peavy, District 1 Commissioner, said.

Out of those funds, $400 will go to the Chamber of Commerce to help Executive Director Tracy Salter offset some of the costs of operation.

“The other $600 will go to Parks and Rec for some of the expenses regarding the upkeep of the building and pool,” Peavy said.

Kaye Lightfoot, County Administrator, read a thank you note from Pam Martin, mother of Peavy’s nephew Cory Martin, who died in October  2022.

“Dear Commission, thank you so much for the plant you sent when my son Cory died,” Lightfoot read. “I’ve been overcome with overwhelming grief.”

The commission then approved a resolution for the emergency closure of county offices in the event of bad weather. An older resolution had required all the commissioners to be in agreement to close government, county, and city offices.

“This is so the Chairman and administrator can [close the offices], in case of a tornado,” Peavy said. “It’ll save time.”

Lastly, the commission discussed the upcoming courtroom renovations at the Butler County Courthouse.

“We’ve already received a price list on the items and the various things we’ve talked about doing,” Peavy said.“I think we need to move forward with that. We’re not tied into any one person. There’s going to be enough work for more than one contractor.”

Peavy asked the assembled crowd to recommend anyone they knew who was qualified to perform the work and instructed the audience to ask those persons to contact the commission office at (334) 382-3612.
