After one season as head coach for the Greenville Tigers football program, Patrick Browning is leaving to try his hand at college coaching. News of Browning’s move to Alabama State University was announced this morning by AL.com. Browning will take over as quarterback coach and passing game coordinator for the Hornets.

Browning built a championship team at Pike Road, leading them to a Class 5A title in 2021, before moving to coach at Greenville High School last year.

Browning told AL.com that he has been blessed to work with amazing coaches, players and administration during his short time in Greenville.

“I am grateful for the opportunity that Mr. (Joseph) Eiland (Butler County superintendent), Mr. (Jamie) Howard (Greenville High School principal), and the board of education gave me at Greenville, and the support they have given me since I have been here has been incredible,” Browning said to AL.com. “The opportunity to coach Division 1 football is rare for a high school coach, especially having the blessing of coaching quarterbacks and being the passing game coordinator at the D1 level, along with not having to move my family. It was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.”

The Greenville Tigers football team went 1-9 during the 2022-23 season.
