Teachers, administrators, and students at McKenzie School recently learned their school, tucked away on the southern end of Butler County, earned an ‘A’ grade on the Alabama Department of Education State Report Card.

According to results of the Report Card, which can be found by searching for McKenzie High School at https://statereportcard.alsde.edu/selectschool.aspx, the school achieved high marks in several key metrics. The school scored a 100 in both graduation rate and academic growth, and reached a score of 95.83 in college and career readiness.

Other relevant indicators on the Report Card show a score of 60.49 in academic achievement and 18.99 in chronic absenteeism.

When compared to other schools in Butler County, McKenzie leads the pack by 11 points, with Greenville Elementary School’s 79 score on its state report card second.

In a conversation with Miles Brown, who recently retired from his post as principal at McKenzie, he said he never won a state title during his years of coaching, but he was happy he was able to bring home the equivalent of an academic championship by achieving an ‘A’ grade.

Brown certainly set a good example for McKenzie School staff to follow, but it took the hard work of everyone involved, including the parents of the children who attend the school, to make this achievement possible.

McKenzie’s achievements show when the community, teachers, high-level administrators, and students put forth their best efforts and buy into the educational process, it pushes the system and the students forward in a positive direction and excellence is the result.

As for Brown, may he enjoy his retirement, and we hope his replacement brings an equal amount of enthusiasm for wanting the school and its students to be among the best in our state.
