Claranna Roberts isn’t hanging by a thread; she’s got this.

Greenville’s newest business, Coffee Cup Quilting, is already considered a staple in the crafting community, and the doors haven’t even officially opened.

All of the local quilters are on pins and needles waiting for Aug. 24. This is the day Roberts will open her free motion doors at 10 a.m. and let in the strippers, piecers, and wonky boarder fabric hoarders.

Located at 213 S. Conecuh Street in Greenville, Coffee Cup Quilting is a “fabric to finish” one-stop shop. With a room set aside as a class and meeting room, parking in the rear of the store and hot coffee always on brew, customers will have to hunt for a reason to leave.

No longer will fabric lovers need to take a FART, or fabric acquisition road trip, to a far away place to seek the treasures they need for their one-block wonders, crazy patches or UFO’s (unfinished objects).

Roberts moved here in April from Las Vegas. The pandemic hit that city hard and shut it down for quite a while.

Finally, tired of waiting for life to get back to normal, Roberts set out to find her not so unfamiliar normal.

She owned a fabric shop in Indiana for six years before moving out west.

Her love for fabric started at a young age. At 13, she decided to make her own clothes.

With hard-earned cash in hand, a new Singer sewing machine and a pattern for a skirt and plaid-lined vest (it was the 70’s, so don’t laugh too loud), she bought her supplies.

That outfit lasted her for years.

Fast-forward to now, and Roberts’ love of fabrics has landed her here in Greenville.

She offers cotton fabrics, batting and backing supplies, long arm quilting and all the basics in between.

As far as what type of fabrics her shop will carry, Roberts said she’ll, “go where the community leads. If they want traditional, modern or reproduction,” that’s what she’ll carry.

For more information, contact the shop at (334) 665-4098  or on Facebook by searching for Coffee Cup Quilting.
