Fort Dale falls to Volunteers

The Fort Dale Eagles lost their home matchup against the Monroe Academy  Volunteers Friday night.

The Volunteers drew first blood after securing a 13-yard touchdown in the first quarter, placing the Volunteers in the lead.

By the second quarter, the Eagles were still trailing the Volunteers. A 35-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Alford to Alan Alvarez allowed the Eagles to take the lead.

Neither team made a score through the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Volunteers had retaken the lead.

In control of the ball near their 40-yard and trailing 27-7, the Eagles managed to shorten the Volunteers lead after Noah Pickens ran for a one-yard touchdown.

After a successful extra-point kick by Alan Alverez, the Eagles were trailing the Volunteers 27-14.

With three minutes left, the Volunteers extended their lead with a48-yard touchdown.

The Eagles managed to score after Sam Bloodworth threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Alan Alverez.

Although the Eagle’s defense prevented the Volunteers from scoring again in the remaining minutes of the game, the Eagles walked away with a 34-20 loss.

The Eagles managed 312 yards against the Volunteers with 196 passing yards and 116 rushing yards.

Fort Dale Academy Head Coach Eric Folmar said that despite the loss, he is proud of how the team played.

“I think the kids did well,” Folmar said. “I’m proud of the way the kids played. We put ourselves in a position where we could have walked away with the win but unfortunately, we couldn’t make the plays in the fourth quarter.”
