The Butler County Commission will be launching its “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” roadside cleanup campaign later this year.

Originally started by Commissioner Joey Peavy, the campaign was a big success thanks to the support of the local community. “We had a lot of people participating when we first started this thing,” explained Commissioner Peavy. “The people who took part in the campaign took great pride in their communities. They wouldn’t dare to think of throwing stuff out like that.”

Commissioners are looking to launch the campaign again this year on April 10.

Any community that participates must appoint a group leader who will determine where to start each cleanup project.

Additionally, supplies, including bags and safety vests, will be provided by the county. Sheriff Danny Bond and the rest of the sheriff’s department will transport the collected trash away from the communities.

As of today, multiple communities have expressed interest in participating in the campaign.
