Linda Morris Jones

Mrs. Linda Morris Jones, 76, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021. A memorial service for Mrs. Jones was held at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 6th, at First Baptist Church of Luverne with Brother Clay Crum officiating.

Mrs. Jones was born and raised in Ozark, Alabama, and became a proud graduate of Auburn University. She moved to Luverne in 1976 and has resided there ever since. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Luverne, and even served as their secretary for nearly 30 years. She was also a dedicated Sunday School teacher for the 4 & 5 year-old class for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed indulging in her creative side through sewing and quilting. She also loved taking various shopping trips to see what goodies and special items she could find. Above all though, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. She has left behind an indelible legacy of love and service for all those she knew and loved.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George J. “Jack” Jones; parents, Jesse & Hazel Johns Morris; and her brother & sister-in-law, Charles & Dona Morris. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Brandon & Dayna Jones; three grandchildren, Hannah Grant, Chris Jones, and Jaiden Jones; and great-grandson, Logan Grant.

Bobby Sherrill Reeves II

Mr. Bobby Sherrill Reeves II, 44, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away at Andalusia Health on January 1, 2021. A memorial service for Mr. Reeves will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 24th, at the Sherling Lake Lodge, 4397 Braggs Road, Greenville, Alabama.

Mr. Reeves was the epitome of a hard worker. He spent over 15 years working as a logger. In his free time, he thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting and fishing. On Saturdays in the fall, he could be found cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Those who knew him best, often described him as the embodiment of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song “Simple Man.” He was a man who loved every aspect of his life, and appreciated all the simple things about it. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and new grandfather. His family meant the world to him, and he proved that to them every single day. He taught his sons to be both strong and kind, and those are lessons they will carry with them throughout their lives. He was dearly loved, and will be just as dearly missed, but his family will cherish all of the memories they made with him throughout the years.

Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his mother, Bettie Jean Cartwright Reeves. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Christy Williams Reeves; their two sons, Leander Sam Reeves and Liam Tyler Reeves; grandson, Leander Sam Reeves Jr; father, Bobby Sherrill Reeves I; four sisters, Teresa Walden, Michelle (Michael) Thebarge, Shana Reeves, and Sandy (Michael) Kolb; and several nieces and nephews.

William Clifton Veit

Mr. William Clifton Veit Sr, 87, a resident of Brantley, Alabama, passed away at Crenshaw Community Hospital on Monday, December 28, 2020. A memorial service for Mr. Veit will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, December 31st, at Brunson Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Hunter Pugh officiating.

Mr. Veit was a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He also spent time stationed in Germany before returning to the States. He went on to work with General Electric in Consumer Electronics. After his retirement from GE, Mr. Veit decided to move to a warmer climate, so he and his wife, Shirley, relocated to Alabama. Once in the South, he went to work with the United States Postal Service and owned his own chicken houses with his brother. His incredible work ethic kept him on the job until he was 81 years old. He was well known in both Brantley and Luverne through his work with the USPS, and he was always warm and friendly with everyone. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took enormous pride in his family and loved spending time with them. All those he loved and who loved him in return will miss him immeasurably, but they will always cherish the memories they made together.

Mr. Veit was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Rice Veit; their daughter, Pamela E. Veit; his parents, Henry Herr & Elizabeth Brietenbach Veit; and four brothers. He is survived by his two children, Shirley Renee Stevens and William C. Veit Jr; five grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Wallace, Shawn Smart, Allen Stevens, Brittany Veit, and Tiffany Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Isabella Smart, Jayla Stevens, Sommer Chambers, and Jeremiah Maddox; and his brother, Wayne Veit.

William Glyn Stringer

Mr. William Glyn Stringer, 59, a resident of Honoraville, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Stringer at 10 AM on Thursday, December 31, in Hopewell Cemetery in Honoraville with Pastor John Ross Massey officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Stringer proudly served his community as a firefighter and first responder with the Honoraville Volunteer Fire Department for 39 years. He was a well-known and respected member of his community. He was quite a character and could entertain anyone for hours. His personality really shined as he hosted a gospel music show on WQZX 94.3. More than anything, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, and uncle, and he absolutely adored his nieces and nephews. He was a special light in his community and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Stringer was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Glyn Stringer, and his grandparents, William E. “Gene” & Mildred Taylor Stringer and R.D. & Lucille Tate Witherington. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Meg Ferguson Stringer; mother, Minnie Sylvia Witherington Stringer; brother, Mickey Ray Stringer; sister-in-law, Lois Ferguson Conner; niece, Sara Stringer (J.D.) Dorman; nephew, Austin Stringer; and two great-nieces, Rheya & Emilia Dorman.

James Lenard Mason

Mr. James Lenard Mason, 62, a resident of Lapine, Alabama, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at Baptist Medical Center South after a hard fight with COVID-19. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Mason at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Danielville Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Carter officiating.

Mr. Mason began his career as a service technician working on forklifts in the 1980s, working almost 33 years for Dyna-Lift and was only a few months shy of retirement. In his free time, he loved spending time outdoors, including turkey and dove hunting. He took extreme pride in taking care of his home and yard. He definitely loved life and lived it to its fullest. He enjoyed taking cruises, going to casinos, and visiting his dear friends, Benny & Duck, in Key West. Every morning, he could be found at Ramer Cafe for breakfast. Above all, he was a loving father to his children and grandfather to the children he affectionately called his “rugrats.” He has left this world far too soon, but his family will find comfort in the lifetime of memories they have made together.

Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Petty Mason. He is survived by his four children, Kenny (Britney) Mason, Timothy (Stephanie) Mason, Leslie (Adam) Stanfield, and Brad (Brooke) Caton; seven grandchildren, Garrett Mason, Lindsey Mason, Cailyn Ramer, Kale Edwards, Raiden Mason, Shayne Countryman, and Sidney Davis; father, Hebert Vernon Mason; three siblings, Howell Farion (Cheryl) Mason, Vernon Keith (Gina) Mason, & Deborah Lynn Mason; three nieces, Angela Mason (Kevin Shifflet), Samantha Mason (Mick Vassas), and Victoria (Clarence) Hudson; several great-nieces & great-nephews; and his special friend, Lelia Fisher.

John Douglas Bush

John Douglas Bush passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the age of 77. He was born in Brantley, Alabama and lived in Bogalusa, Louisiana for most of his life. John was a loving husband and father. He was a child of the Lord Almighty. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. John loved spending his time with family, gardening, and fishing. He worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers until he retired. He spent his time here on earth providing for his loving family. He was the loving husband of O’Nell Bush for 57 years, and a loving father to Tim and Ricky Bush of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. John is preceded in death by his mother Estelle Bush, father John L. Bush, sister Betty Murphy, brother Jimmy Bush, and granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Bush. He is survived by his wife O’Nell Bush, sons Tim Bush (Lisa), Ricky Bush (Nikki), grandchildren Mallory Ofcarzak (Adam), John Evan Bush, Easton Bush, Rikki Nicole Baines (Ken), Katelyn Bush, great grandchildren Jensen Ofczarzak, John Briar Bush, Samuel Baines, and Sarah Kate Baines, brothers Charles Bush, Ben Bush, Rex Bush, and sister Martha Sappenfield. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to a church or favorite organization of the donor’s choice. Services will be announced on a later date.
