A delivery driver is behind bars and facing charges of receiving stolen property after allegedly taking packages.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2 2020, Greenville Police Department investigators began to look into complaints of undelivered packages in the Greenville area.  The complaints were that the delivery company showed that packages were being delivered to the intended recipients; however, the intended recipients stated that they never got their packages, Police Chief Justin Lovvorn said.

Lovvorn said Investigator Lt. Beck contacted the local office of the delivery company and spoke to a supervisor.  He was able to use the company’s records to show that at least one package in particular was not delivered at the date and time that was recorded by the delivery driver assigned to the Greenville area route.  Greenville Police Department investigators then tracked down the delivery driver to question her about the delivery and the other missing packages.

“The delivery driver, who was off work at the time, was found to be in possession of one package on her person when contacted by investigators,” Lovvorn said. “They recognized the name on the package as one of the victims who stated they were missing a delivery and took possession of the package which had already been opened.  They then obtained a search warrant for the delivery drivers personal vehicle and searched her residence in Conecuh County as well.”

Lovvorn said GPD investigators recovered just over 20 packages in these two locations.  Several of these packages had been opened as well.  GPD investigators contacted the delivery company and informed them of the packages that were located.  The company’s supervisor stated that the delivery driver was not authorized to be in possession of any packages in their personal vehicle or at their residence.

Employees are assigned a delivery truck and all packages are delivered with a company vehicle.  All the packages, when scanned by the delivery company, showed a status of already delivered to the rightful owners in the Greenville area.

Investigators then charged the delivery driver, Amber Baggett, a 28-year-old white female from Conecuh County, with a felony charge of receiving stolen property second-degree. The value of the packages added up to just more than $1,600 and included such items as iPhone, clothing, cologne, bath and body works, and assorted electronics.

The Greenville Police Department will process and document each piece of evidence and then return them back to the delivery company to repackage any undamaged items so they can finally be delivered to the rightful owners before Christmas.  The Greenville Police Department would ask that if anyone has a missing or undelivered package, please contact the proper representative at the delivery company first to make them aware of it and gather more information.  If the delivery company states that the package was delivered, then you need to contact your local law enforcement to investigate further if you did not receive the package.
