The Greenville Fire Department is in desperate need of a new fire truck, as one of their vehicles will have been in the system 30 years this January– five years over the National Fire Protection Association suggested life span.

The new truck will have around a 110-feet a real platform with double axels, which will help solve the current issue of limited capacity on the ladder.

“We’re currently having some problems reaching the highest of places with the ladder that we have in place right now,” said Greenville Fire Chief Tim Warrick. “The double axel on the new truck would help solve those concerns.”

The truck will cost $1.4 million, and will hopefully be funded by a bond issue that was approved by the Greenville City Council at an October meeting, said Warrick.

“Talks with council members have gone really well so far. We feel like a new fire truck would be a good opportunity to plan for the future,” Warrick said.

If approved by the council, the truck would take about a year to go through the manufacturing process in Appleton, Wisconsin.

“This would be a huge deal for the GFD. I think it would make a huge, huge difference in the community,” Warrick said.
