The south end of Butler County is gearing up to celebrate the holiday season in 2020.

The City of Georgiana is slated to kick things off with its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 in the city park.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Town of McKenzie will welcome everyone to its main thoroughfare to enjoy their annual parade set for 10 a.m. Attendees can expect colorful floats and decorated vehicles from golf carts and pickups to horse and buggy entries and, of course, Santa waving from atop the big red fire truck. The parade will proceed down Main and double back to allow everyone a good view of the festivities.

Those planning to participate in the parade are asked to stop by McKenzie Town Hall to pick up a registration form. There is no fee to enter.

In Georgiana, the Three Arts Club of Georgiana and Chapman will be holding their annual Christmas Bazaar, also set to begin at 10 a.m. on Dec. 5. This year’s event will be held in the Georgiana Nutrition Center on Palmer Ave. A variety of home-baked goodies, including cakes, cookies and candies, along with jams, jellies and preserves will be available, along with some hand-crafted goods and “white elephant” items. Santa is also expected to stop in to visit with the kiddies and provide photo ops following his appearance in the McKenzie parade.

The club’s famous $5 boxed lunches will be available for pre-order and pick up on the day of the bazaar. A raffle is also being held for a delicious red velvet cake for $1 a chance. Contact any Three Arts Club member for more information or to purchase a box or raffle tickets. Proceeds from the club’s annual bazaar go towards the Three Arts Scholarship Program for area high school senior girls and to help families in distress.

The bazaar will be wrapping things up at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon in time for the City of Georgiana Christmas Parade, slated for 2 p.m. Bands, floats, motorcycles, and decorated vehicles from across the county are expected to wind their way from the old high school down Palmer Avenue and through downtown Georgiana. Of course, a busy Santa will be bringing up the rear on the big red fire truck, closing out a fun day of holiday festivities in south Butler County.
