Dorothy “Dot” Goodwin

Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Goodwin, 90, of Georgiana were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020 with Bro. Jared Harp and Bro. Donnie Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm on Monday at the funeral home.  Mrs. Goodwin passed away at her home on Wednesday night.

She is survived by her children Sammy Goodwin, Cindy Goodwin Smith (David); grandchildren Michelle Phillips (Eric), Lesley Davenport (Mitchell), Morgan Arrington (McMillan), Carson Junkin, Timothy Goodwin, and Kevin Goodwin; and five great grandchildren; three sisters Shirley Gipson, Joyce Morris, Jean Sanford; brother Hubert Herring; and several nieces and nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Goodwin; son O’Neal Goodwin; daughter Jody Goodwin Junkin; parents Allen and Florence Herring; sisters Alene Riley, Janice Herring; brothers Douglas Herring, Arnold Herring, Royce Herring.

Pallbearers will be Carson Junkin, Eric Phillips, McMillan Arrington, Mitchell Davenport, Douglas Bennett, and Norman Lowrey.

She was a member of Georgiana Church of Christ. She was a people person who loved children. She spent her work life serving food to the children of Georgiana School and later volunteered to serve food at the Senior Center in Georgiana.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.

Ollie Jones

Graveside service for Mrs. Ollie Jones, 78 of Georgiana were held at 11 a.m., on Monday November 9, 2020 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Danny Ellis officiating. Mrs. Jones passed away on Saturday in Greenville.

She is survived by her son Cal Jones and his wife Sandra Walden Jones; grandchildren Melissa Jones, Rusty Browder (Leslie), Paige Dooley (Tyler),  and Hope Godwin (Nathaniel); great-grandchildren Parks Dooley, Bryson Browder, Knox Dooley, and Charlie Godwin; brother Lonnie Rivers; and several nieces and nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55-plus years, Joe Paul Jones; her parents Person and Margaret Rivers; siblings Lester, Carol, Nae, and Joyce.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Doorley, Rusty Browder, Bucky Childree, Scott Burkett, Kenny Burkett, and Reid Burkett.

She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  She loved growing flowers and meeting new people. She enjoyed NASCAR on Sundays and could make the BEST squash casserole. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed.

Clara Betty Bowen

Clara Betty Bowen, age 82 of Fort Deposit, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.

. Graveside services were held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Reverend Gayle Woodard officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Chelma Bowen; five sons; three daughters; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

James Robert Josey

James Robert Josey, age 87, of Greenville, AL passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Regency Hospital of Meridian, Miss. The funeral service will be Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. from the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with Reverend Herbert Brown and Reverend Tyree Bowen officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12  p.m. at Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home.

Mr. Josey was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Jessie C. Josey and Mattie Bell Josey; brother-in-law, Howard Lee and son-in-law, Wesley E. Terry.

He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Josey of Greenville, AL; daughters, Brenda K. Terry of Merced, CA, Jocelyn R. Reyes (Daniel), Glenda F. Josey (Felix Timothy Reyes) and Kathy G. Cruz all of Fresno, CA; step-daughter, Terry L. Sims (William) of Meridian, MS; step-son, Mark O. Keebler of Pearl, MS; grandchildren, Ashley E. Reyes, Nicholas J. Reyes, Micah P. Reyes, Joshua Giudici, Jeremy Giudici and Julia E. Giudici all of Fresno, CA, Kayla R. Gates (Matthew) of Chico, CA, Dane C. Cherry of Merced, CA and Timothy Carson Reyes of Sacramento, CA; step-grandchildren, William S. Sims of Meridian, MS, Christian N. Sims and Melissa M. Keebler both of Oxford, MS, Ashley E. Keebler, Samantha I Keebler, Victoria A. Keebler and Katherine S. Keebler all of Pearl, AL; siblings, Mary Alice Gorum (Raymond) of Red Level, AL, Nell Marie Lee of McKenzie, AL and Jessie Lamar Josey (Wanda) of Prattville, AL and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Active pallbearers will be, Nicholas Reyes, Dane Cherry, Carson Reyes, Anthony Hudson, William Sims, and Burton Lee; honorary pallbearers, Lamar Josey,  Wesley Terry and Howard Lee.

Aleshia Grace “Billye Maye” Rainey

Alesha Grace a.k.a. Billye Maye Rainey, age 81, a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020, at home surrounded by loved ones. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Troy with Reverends Steve Winton and Jim Dannaly officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with her grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers. Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home. Mrs. Rainey will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday. Mrs. Rainey radiated Florida sunshine and all the exciting colors that come to mind when someone thinks of the happy peninsula state. Mr. Rainey spotted her at a youth church meeting in Crestview, Florida, just kids in high school, but he was drawn to the warmth of her spirit and knew she would be the brilliant light of his life. They married, and started a happy family, and relocated to Troy in July of 1974. Troy was home and its community has been a brighter place since they arrived. You’ve probably known her too, as a friendly face or voice in the Charles Henderson Child Health Center offices, as a resource with the Pike County School System in the vocational department or as a substitute teacher, or perhaps as an inspiration for health and fitness if you passed her by on her daily three mile trek. She was an all-star mom, cheering on her children’s extracurricular endeavors, chaperoning scout adventures, sewing the most stylish trends, and making sure the cookie jar was always full of fresh oatmeal cookies. She was a skilled gardener, cultivating her flower beds and paying special interest to her Iris collection. Her Iris bounty prospered, and as she shared them with family near and far, a little piece of her beauty has been left to bloom in gardens across the country. If she didn’t share her flowers with you, it’s likely you were lucky enough to indulge one of her renowned sour cream pound cakes. She loved adventure and travel. Some of her most memorable destinations were to explore Egypt and the lure of its culture, the wonderment of the Oregon Coast and Yellowstone National Park, and nostalgia of Israel. Mrs. Rainey collected giraffes, all kinds from all over, and just like the spots of a giraffe, she was a wonderful, one-of-a-kind. Mrs. Rainey is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack G. Rainey; children, Debra Lee Rainey of Jackson, TN, Todd Guy Rainey (Beverly) of Decatur, AL, and Scott Arlington Rainey (Elaine) of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Dunne (Tom), Emily Rainey, Amanda Rainey, Tucker Rainey (Carly), Braxton Rainey (Amy), Hannah Rainey, Bethany Rainey, Jackson Rainey, Jessica Rainey, and Julette Rainey; great-grandson, Elijah Elsner; sisters, Eva Lee Fountain of Crestview, FL, and Grace Manon Harris of Kansas City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
