Derek Bryan has been a staple in the Crenshaw County Extension office for nearly 29 years.

Bryan has served as coordinator for the last eight year and retired Oct. 1.

Bryan was hired in February 1992 and before that, he taught vocational agriculture in Bowden, Georgia for a year-and-a-half.

While working as the Extension Coordinator Bryan was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from The National Ag County Agents Association in 2017.

When asked what he would miss about his job, Bryan said, “The people. I have built many relationships and friendships in this job. I have met some of the best people in the world in this job and I am going to miss working with them on the programs that extension sponsors and assist with.”

With retirement looming, Bryan said he has made plans.

The soon-to-be retiree mentioned he will use his free time to “work on some projects that I have been putting on the back burner. Not being in a rush to finish things, knowing that I only have a limited amount of time to accomplish a certain task. Also, looking forward to doing some hunting and fishing.”
