Superintendent: Students, teachers adapting

Crenshaw County Schools are adapting to the new normal while trying to keep students safe during the pandemic.

80% of students returned for in-class learning, while 20% chose virtual courses.

The school has managed to keep cases to a minimum.

“Our faculty, staff and administrators are doing tremendous jobs,” Superintendent Dodd Hawthorne said. “As a superintendent, I couldn’t be more proud.”

All students second grade and up are required to wear masks on school property when social distancing cannot be achieved.

Within the last week, the schools have had only one confirmed case.

Within the last two weeks, 31 students have been sent home with symptoms, but most are back with negative results. Others are still waiting for their tests.

One staff member has tested positive.
