The Junior Butler County Humane Society is gearing up to kick off their new club year soon—and it will all be done following social distancing guidelines, says club sponsor Kimberly Matthews, VP of the Butler County Humane Society, its parent organization.

“We want all our parents and guardians to know that we will do our best to keep their children safe during all our events and activities,” said Matthews. “That means wearing masks, staying six feet apart, washing hands. Also, all our events are outdoors, so that is a safer situation.”

First on the schedule will be a trip to Hope Afield near Greenville on September 12 to enjoy horseback riding with the Kilpatricks.

Participants should arrive by 9:45 a.m. at the Searcy Schoolhouse. The cost will be $5 per child and lunch will be provided.

On October 10, a trip to the Montgomery Zoo is on tap for the JBCHS.

“We ask that everyone meet us at 10 a.m. at the schoolhouse that Saturday. We will provide admission, lunch and t-shirts, but everyone must provide their own masks and remember to socially distance,” said Matthews. “We can also use parents and guardians to help us with transportation and to serve as chaperones.”

On October 31, the Butler County Humane Society will have a fundraising booth at Old Time Farm Day, and JBCHS members are welcome to serve as volunteers anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. that Saturday.  Admission for volunteers is free; all volunteers are asked to wear their humane society t-shirts and their masks.

The Junior Butler County Humane Society, which is open to local youth ages 12-18, offers participants the chance to interact in a positive way with animals and learn all about caring for them. It also serves as a support arm to the Butler County Humane Society’s fundraising activities, offering the students the opportunity to earn community service hours.

“We welcome anyone in this age range who is interested in being a part of our group to come and join us. We have a great time and it’s a wonderful learning experience and chance to serve your community,” said Matthews.
