It’s been said that you can always go home, and I get to do that to an extent in my new role.

As many of you know I grew up in Brantley, was educated in the Crenshaw County school system, went to church at Faith Walk Ministries and was active in the Brantley High School Emerald Wave Marching Band in high school.

After high school, I went to Troy and got a degree in journalism and have spent the last 17 years of my life in the newspaper business in some form or fashion, which is literally half my life.

I’ve worked in nearly every aspect in the newspaper business you can put your hands in and that’s something I’m extremely proud to have done.

I was fortunate to grow up in Crenshaw County and have some of the best memories here. The success of the county is important to me as is this newspaper. I’ve said it before, but I will say it again, nothing excited me more than Thursday afternoons when the Journal would arrive at my grandparents. I can say with the same excitement of a 10-year-old that newspapers still give me that same feeling except I get to be the one putting it together, teaching the next generation of journalists what makes a good, solid community newspaper and I get to tell your stories.

Perhaps, my biggest challenge is having a staff of three covering three counties. The team we have in place for The Journal, The Advocate and The Signal is amazing, but there will be times we seek your help to get what’s important to you in your local paper. We want to produce the quality work you deserve. So, if you have an event you’d like covered, we’ll do everything in our ability to make it to the event, but know that if we can’t make it that doesn’t mean that it’s not important. Simply snap a photo and send an email to us. We’ll still make sure that it gets in the paper. I’ve already heard from some of you who have things you’d like to see us add to the paper, but I would love to hear from more of you about what you truly want to see in your paper.
