ALEA: Shooting in Crenshaw County leaves one dead, law enforcement, medical personnel injured

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed Thursday that, at the request of Crenshaw County Sheriff Terry Mears, Special Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) were dispatched to investigate a shooting that took place Wednesday night in Crenshaw County.

According to the release, the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, and involved both the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office and Luverne Police Department.

One person is deceased, and officers from both agencies received minor injuries as did responding medical personnel. The injured officers and medical personnel were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

ALEA has not yet released any specific details, such as names or exact location, about the incident. Local agencies have also not released any statement or details due to the investigation being handled by SBI, although The Luverne Journal has reached out.

The ALEA release also states that “findings will be turned over to the 2nd Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.”
