COVID-19 testing set in Butler County on April 21

A drive-thru COVID-19 testing site will be available for Butler County residents tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Butler County Health Department offices located at 350 Airport Rd. in Greenville, will have testing available. In order to be tested, you must either be referred by a physician or meet a checklist of criteria.

You qualify for testing if you are symptomatic with a fever, cough or shortness of breath and you are age 65 or older; a healthcare worker or a person with conditions that place you at a higher risk. Examples include diabetes, heart disease, asthma, cancer or other conditions that weaken the immune system.

Health officials note that if you have no symptoms that testing is not recommended. If you have mild symptoms and do not fall into one of the risk groups, it is recommended that you self isolate at home and call 1-888-264-2256 if symptoms worsen.

As of Monday afternoon, there were 14 confirmed cases in Butler County with 136 total tests performed. In neighboring Crenshaw County, there were six confirmed cases out of 171 total tests and in Lowndes County, there were 31 cases out of 96 total tested. Butler, Crenshaw and Lowndes counties have not reported any deaths from the illness. In Alabama there have been 113 deaths related to coronavirus out of 164 reported deaths, and 5,078 positive cases reported.
