Two local nurses are currently in New York City serving on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19 and family and friends are requesting the spiritual and moral support of the community during their three-week period of service.

Wendy McGriff and La’Shonda Crenshaw, both of Greenville, traveled to NYC on March 31 to begin working in two of the city’s medical facilities. McGriff is at Metropolitan Hospital, while Crenshaw is at Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility. Both are helping care for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.

McGriff’s husband, local businessman Chad McGriff, recently asked friends via social media to consider sending Wendy and La’Shonda something to help brighten the long and exhausting days at work while in NYC.

“I never ask for help on Facebook,” McGriff said. “But I am asking all my family and friends to consider sending a card or hand-written note to Wendy and La’Shonda, or to pray over a small piece of cloth if you feel led to as a prayer cloth.”

McGriff says mail sent out between April 6 through April 8 should reach Wendy and La’Shonda approximately halfway through their 21 days at their respective facilities.

“This would be such an encouragement and a real boost to both of these ladies’ morale and I would be so incredibly grateful,” McGriff concluded.
