The Georgiana Garden Club met in early October at the Log Cabin.

President Suzy Shepherd presided over the meeting and secretary Sandra Jones called the roll, with members answering a favorite fall flower. The favorite was Spider Lily.

For devotional, Jones read an inspirational poem from the book of poems called “Expressions.” Following the devotion, Jones, who also served as hostess, served the members chicken roll-ups, chips, Cole slaw and pumpkin spice cake.

Committee reports were then given. Jones, finance chairman, reported that the club placed more than 20 plants at the Butler County Fair. The Club received a lot of nice compliments about the plants that are placed each year. The Club was lucky to have such nice healthy plants ad the weather had been so hot and in need of rain.

Shepherd updated the Club about the District VI meeting in Luverne slated for late October.

It was also announced that Judy (Buddy) Manning, the new District Director, would have a drawing for a GCA State Life Membership to a club member who is present at the meeting but is not a State Life Member. State Life Memberships are $50 and the money goes toward Auburn scholarships.

It was also announced that District VI members were selling chances on a $100 with proceeds going toward District VI expenses. The Georgiana Garden Club also sold chances on a beautiful jeweled sunflower/pumpkin pillow, a handmade wisteria vine basket and a church birdhouse. All chances were $1. The District now has 13 clubs and 200 members.

Shepherd also discussed changes in the district bylaws that will need to be voted on at the District Meeting and some items that will not be voted on.

Clubs hosting the 2020 District Meeting are Camellia of Wetumpka, Fleur de Lis of Camden and Georgiana. The Montgomery Federation will host the 2021 meeting. (Canterberry Bells, Normandale and Scatter Seeds.)

The Club voted to place a “Bee” book in the Rose Memorial Library for children to learn about saving the bees. Jones also presented a very interesting program on making floral arrangements in fresh pumpkins.

Shepherd made a special presentation. She presented a GCA State Life Membership to Hilda Fowler. Fowler was also the winner of the door prize.

Lastly, it was announced that President Shepherd and Ernie Scruggs would be attending the District Meeting. Shepherd is the District VI secretary and Scruggs will be performing a skit with other GCA members about the upcoming State Convention. Scruggs served as hostess and program leader at the Club’s November meeting.

The meeting adjourned with the reading of the Gardner’s Prayer.
