Women today have busy lives, filled with hectic hustle and bustle. It’s enough to wear you down and burn you out. With that in mind, an upcoming event at Greenville’s First United Methodist Church promises to help local ladies become refreshed and restored as they learn to stop, listen and learn from the stillness.

“Be Still and Know” Women’s Conference, inspired by Psalms 46:10, is set for Saturday, Oct. 5 beginning at 9 a.m. at FUMC. Evangelist Carolyn Griffin of Warrior Ministries is organizing and leading the event, with The Reverend Angie Long and FUMC serving as hosts.

“The idea for our women’s conference was really born out of a devotional I was sent . . . how women, no matter what walk of life, are always busy with homes, family, work, church, volunteer efforts. They often feel burdened by being pulled in all directions,” says Griffin.

“This devotional gives you a scripture and thought for each day to help brings things back into focus and clarity, and lets the Lord speak to your heart in that moment. And I realized while I was down in Orange Beach that this would be a wonderful topic for ladies to discuss in a conference setting.”

The speakers will be something of a surprise for the attendees.

“We aren’t presenting our speakers in advance because people sometimes tend to be personality-oriented when they look at the roster for a conference like this,” says Griffin.

“And we want people to come and be open to whomever the speaker may be and to allow their particular message to sink in.”

Griffin hopes to see a cross-section of the community in attendance at the “Be Still and Know” event.

“This is an opportunity for all denominations to come together. No matter what church we may attend, no matter what our socio-economic status or the neighborhood in which we live may be — we have so much in common,” she stresses.

“We are all females, and we all deal with the same things. We just need to come together. I think when we do come together, we can really make a difference in our communities.”

Registration forms are available at FUMC and at Proverbs International Christian Bookstore and Queen Esther’s Boutique downtown. There is a $20 fee to cover the costs of lunch and materials for the conference, which will be held in the fellowship hall of the church, located at 112 Adams St.

“We believe through the materials and the speakers, we will offer ongoing reminders that we all need to be still and know that He is God and He is in control. And that Saturday, we are going to learn just how to do that,” explains Griffin.

“This event is going to be all about unity, the bond of sisterhood and finding that oasis of peace and calm that only the Lord can bring us in the midst of all the busyness of everyday life,” she concludes.
