The heat will be on in Butler County this weekend.

According to the Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), a Heat Advisory has been issued for Butler County today, Saturday, July 6. The advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected between 103 to 104 degrees or heat indexes of 108 to 112. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

The EMA urges Butler Countians to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside including:

• When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
• Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Wear lightweight, light colored and loose fitting clothing when possible
• Drink plenty of water.

It is also encouraged to:

• Call 911 if you see a child or pet locked in a vehicle.
• Check the backseat before exiting a vehicle.
• Check on elderly neighbors.
• Use sunscreen.
• Stay in air conditioned areas.

The signs of heat exhaustion include:

• Heavy sweating.
• Weakness or fainting.
• Cold, pale and clammy skin.
• Rapid, weak pulse.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• Muscle cramps.

The signs of a heat stroke include:

• No sweating.
• Throbbing headache.
• Hot, red, dry skin.
• Rapid, strong pulse.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• May lose consciousness.
