Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Camden Baptist Church for Mrs. Carolyn Buchanan, 81, of Camden, who died Saturday, June  8. Burial will follow at Camden City Cemetery. Bro. Chris Wells and Bro. Herbert Brown will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Camden Baptist Church.

Carolyn was born Ruby Carolyn Crawford on
April 11, 1938, to Herman and Lois Crawford in Greensboro. Greensboro is where she grew up and where she would meet the love of her life, Tommy. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1957, and on Aug. 28, 1960, she and Tommy got married.

Carolyn and Tommy made Camden their home in 1961, and in December of that same year, they welcomed their daughter, Tanya. They began attending Camden Baptist Church and remained members for the rest of their lives.

Carolyn got her cosmetology license, and in 1964, she opened her own beauty shop in her home, Carol’s Cut and Curl. For the next 34 years, she took care of all of her ladies, making sure they all looked their best.

Carolyn loved many things in life; God, her family, her town, her ladies and her flowers. She loved taking care of her flowerbeds and taking care of other people. She loved being Manmama most of all. Out of all of their many accomplishments in life, Carolyn and Tommy were the proudest of being grandparents. She will be greatly missed by many.

Her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas “Tommy,” “Buck” Buchanan; her parents, Herman and Lois Crawford; sister, Linda Rose, and son-in-law, Ray Brian Matthews, preceded Carolyn in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Tanya (Lonzo) Ingram of Greenville; grandchildren, Britany (Josh) Hartin of Dothan and Brandon (Hannah) Matthews of Troy; great grandson, George Haddon Matthews; sisters Evelyn and Yvonne, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sumpter Blackmon and staff in Camden, the medical team at the NSICU at Baptist South in Montgomery and the staff at Crowne Health Care facility in Greenville for their care over the last 12 days.
