Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at First Baptist Church Luverne for the Rev. William L. Leverette, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, following a lengthy illness. Interment followed in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Honoraville. The Rev. Joe Leverette, the Rev. Clay Crum and the Rev. Jim Tate officiated. Visitation was held at the church prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

His wife, Betty, who served alongside him during his more than 50-year ministry, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Baxton Leverette, preceded Bro. William in death. He pastored several churches and led many revivals in Crenshaw, Butler and Henry counties as well as the surrounding areas. He had a passion to serve others and enjoyed getting out in the community to visit and minister to those in need.

Survivors include five children, Kathy Long (Keith) of Athens, Kaye Bowman (Tommy) of Greenville, Bill Leverette (Kim) of Montgomery, Carol Floyd (Ron) of Luverne and Kim Best (Patrick) of Luverne; two brothers: Tommy Leverette (Nancy) of Greenville and Joe Leverette (Mary Nan) of Honoraville; eight grandchildren, Amanda McMilin (Adam) of Lynnville, Tenn., Allyson Mack of Athens, Will Bowman (Jessica) of Greenville, Sarah Beth Leverette of Andalusia, Maggie Leverette of Houston, Texas, Zach Floyd of Luverne, Mary Kate Rogers (Matt) of Elba and Chloe Best of Luverne, and nine great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Bobby Dobson, Mike Dunn, Caleb Gardner, Andy Kimbro, David Lawrence, Kendall Leverette, Lamar Thomas and Cline Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be active and former pastors of the Alabama-Crenshaw Baptist Association.

Bro. William affectionately enjoyed taking part in the annual Crenshaw County Alcazar Shriner’s Peanut Boil and was very grateful for their support of one of his great grandchildren’s medical needs at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. In turn, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Bro. William’s memory.
